Health Awareness on TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome)
Since the use of commercialized sanitary napkins and tampons has been available in the market. Women have been patronizing different brands of feminine hygiene disposal products in the market for their feminine hygiene products claim to be of good quality that can help ease the uncomfortable feeling menstrual period brings. We also have to be careful in keeping ourselves clean through proper feminine hygiene disposal of using tampons. We never know it could also be fatal.
One disease associated with using tampons is Toxic Shock Syndrome or otherwise known as TSS, this is because tampons are inserted into the body to collect menstrual flow. TSS is a flu like disease caused by bacterial toxin of two types, staphylocosccus aureus and streptococcus pyogenes. Tampons that are made of polyester carbon xymethyl are at high risk to bring about getting the disease while tampons made of rayon are at low risk. It is therefore advisable to look at other feminine hygiene disposal options.
The symptoms that TSS brings to the victim are as follows: vomiting, high fever (38.8 farenheit), a rapid drop in blood pressure, bloodshot eyes and unusual redness, under the eyelids or inside the mouth, confusion, decreased urination, fatigue, weakness, thirst, rapid pulse and breathing, pale, cool moist skin and thirst.
Going to the hospital for TSS treatment is not fun, so we share some preventive measures. First and foremost avoid tampon or alternate it with sanitary pads. If you are accustomed to using tampon, choose the one with the lowest absorbency and change it frequently. Store unused tampons away from the heat and moisture. Wash your hand before and after inserting a tampon. Lastly, if you have just recovered from TSS, consult a doctor before beginning to use a tampon again. Hope this helps you for a worry free period.
